our curriculum

The school offers sequential curriculum programs using the Australian Victorian Essential Learning Standards (AusVELS) framework.

AusVELS is based on the VELS triple-helix structure of three interconnected areas of learning called strands. (see table below)

The three strands of the AusVELS are as follows:

Physical, Personal and Social LearningStudents learn about themselves and their place in society. They learn how to stay healthy and active. Students develop skills in building social relationships and working with others. They take responsibility for their learning, and learn about their rights and responsibilities as global citizens.
Discipline-based LearningStudents learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the arts, English, humanities, mathematics, science and other languages.
Interdisciplinary LearningStudents explore different ways of thinking, solving problems and communicating. They learn to use a range of technologies to plan, analyse, evaluate and present their work. Students learn about creativity, design principles and processes.

Further information about AusVELS can be obtained by

class structure

Loch Sport Primary School has a 1 class structure, where students from grades prep to six learn together as a school community within the one classroom. In this environment learning is catered to the individual needs of the students, and a sense of community is fostered, valued, and prioritised.

curriculum days

There are 4 curriculum days per year. The first day of the school year is a compulsory pupil free day. The Principal and Staff discuss/nominate additional days which must be approved by School Council. Curriculum days will be published in the school Grapevine newsletter.
